Models for the background of Negima!

.
To be honest, I have little interest in the made-up situation for boys, like "somehow a boy attracts a dozen of cute and pretty girls."
I don't recall how I happened to read Mahou Sensei Negima!, one of the last manga I would try reading, but I was fascinated by its background, the magnificent scenes of the academic city, at first sight.

In "MAGISTER NEGI MAGI" Research Institute, a fan of Mahou Sensei Negima! digged for the background of the manga and displays the buildings the manga author adopted as the model for his manga.

The pitching doujin artist

On June 1st there was a pro-baseball game between Yomiuri Giants and Nippon Hum Fighters at Sapporo Dome Stadium.
When the pitcher Sasaki Kiyoshi appeared in the TV screen, all the otakus couldn't believe their eyes because the incredible words are inserted on him as his data.
Here is the website that has his photo.
It says “He is good at shoujo-manga-style drawing and referred to as the pitching doujin sakka (author/artist). However we wonder if ordinary baseball fans know the meaning of “doujin sakka”.

You can see his artwork in his fan’s website. It is the only artwork by him we can see.

postscript: The webmaster added another artwork and there are two works by Sasaki in his site now.

What's in a manga editor's heart?

On April 26th in a variety show Waratte Iitomo, six manga editors from various publishing companies appeared on TV and answerd some questions.
You can see the photos in Kyogen Diary.

I didn't see the show, but the diary says there was a question what they do in order to make mangaka meet the deadline when they are falling behind in their manga works.
Some answered they cheer them up by giving their favorites, and others said they just keep staying beside them without saying a word to put some pressure.
The editor who is in charge of クニミツの政(まつり) (1)(Kunimitus no Matsuri) said he pretends to be told off over the phone by his boss (maybe in front of the mangaka).
An unique answer was stated by Watanabe who is in charge of Evangelion in Shonen Ace. He answered "I give up." So we finally caught on the reason why we miss Evangelion so often in the magazine. I hope his boss didin't see the show.

Asuka's final line in the Evangelion movie was Miyamura's idea

On March 28th, NHK aired the talk show, Anime Yawa, in their satellite channel.
The subject was Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Spring Mist has the photos of the studio.

Full text of the dialog in original Japanese is uploaded too.

The commentators, Okada Toshio and Inui Kimiko featured six guests.

Miyamura Yuuko, voice actress of Asuka
Ootsuki Toshimichi, producer of the anime
Karasawa Shunichi, subculture columnist
Kotani Mari, sci-fi and fantasy critic
Takimoto Tatsuhiko, novelist
Fujitsu Ryouta, anime critic

In the 55-minute talk show, they talked about the scenes they like, how this anime should have been evaluated in the field of literature, and so forth.
Their favorite scenes are as follows.
Ootsuki: Opening
Miyamori: Shinji and Aska's unison fight against the enemy in episode 9.
Takimoto: Depressed Shinji in episode 4 and the movie.
Kotani: Evangelion eating the Angel in episode 19.

For the first time in ten years, some of them told the private episodes of those days.
Producer Ootsuki said he allowed Anno to do whatever he wanted in the anime except for the theme music. Ootsuki was particular about the theme and handled the music staff by himself. No anime staff, even Annno, met the music staff, he said.

Miyamura who played Asuka revealed the movie's final line "Kimochi warui." (Disgusting) was her idea, and it proved the rumor "Asuka's final line was Miyamura’s idea.”among the fans was ture. She said the final line supposed to had been "Anta nankani korosareru nowa mappira yo!" It can be translated "I'd never want to be killed by you of all men, absolutely not!"

Rough translation of her talk is as follows... (It contains sexually unpleasant topics. If you think you are mature enough to read that, press the letter "続きを読む" below.)続きを読む
