Otaku Proficiency Test (Unofficial) ?!
第一回 全国統一オタク検定試験, The First National Otaku Proficiency Test, is going to take place.

It is totally unofficial and sounds like a joke to me, but nobody can deny the possibility of its becoming a prestige test (among otaku people.)
The test will be held in Magazine Elfics vol.005 scheduled to be published on August 5.

Sadamoto Version of Eva Has Gone Too Far!
As soon as I came across this post, I rushed to a bookstore because I thought it was a must-see! But there was no Shonen Ace left. It occurred to me if it was sold out due to that scene.
Click the picture to enlarge. They say Kaworu-kun is trying to stop Shinji's hyperventilation (with his lips!)
Along with the scream (of terror by guys and of delight by girls), someone pointed out if it wasn't a doujinshi at the forum.
Well, I should go to a manga cafe which has back numbers in stock tomorrow to make it clear.

They look (sound) so different
On April 3rd, Fuji TV aired the educational entertainment show, Tamori no Japonica Logos, whose main subject was Japanese language.
The highlight of the show was the experiment "What if the popular anime characters speak in different ways from they used to” played by their original voice actors.
You can see “What if Heidi speaks in Osaka dialect", “What if Ruffy speaks in Nagoya dialect” and “What if Arare-chan speaks in a sexy way” on this website.
The laughter is not because those dialects are funny but the characters look (sound) totally out of character, revealing how we are affected by stereotype.
IMO, Osaka-dialect speakers are tend to be stereotyped as being bold, cheerful and canny with money.

If Shonen Jump were a doll magazine...
While I was looking for papercrafts of anime characters, I came across many dolls made by fans.
We can make up the doll version of Shonen Jump.
Naruto
One Piece
Hikaru no Go
Yu-Gi-Oh!

Another Because of Love
Fanatic fans try to become their favorite character by mimicking the attire.
When they get more fanatic, they might try to take the same pose as their favorite character.
If you are a fan of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, you'd love this posing lesson.
They dare to perform in public and such a performance is called "JoJo-dachi" (JoJo posing). As the links on the top of the page lead you, the webmaster went abroad to perform JoJo-dachi. Thanks to the help of kind inhabitants, he could take many pictures of his performance in Italy, America and Mexico where JoJo(s) visited in the original manga.
If you run into him, help him with JoJo-dachi.

Because of Love
We can see some anime robots made for commercial purposes.
For example:
Gundam at Gundam Museum
Al from Fullmetal Alchemist in front of a bookstore.
On the other hand, there are fans who actualized thier dreams all by themselves. Following full-size models are made as a hobby!
Movable Gundam in the farmland of Okayama prefecture.
Scopedog in progress.
This one was introduced by many magazines and got very famous. You might know it.
You don't need skills in welding to make following one.

Enjoy Japanese Police Websites
In February, a local police adopted Anna from Shaman King as its mascot.
She is called Anna-chan on the Mutsu Police's website.
However it looks a kindergarten's site, it really is a police's site.
Mutsu City is the birthplace of Takei Hiroyuki, the author of Shaman King, and he was ready to draw his heroine for his hometown.
In fact, every Japanese prefectural police has a mascot as this.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department shows us the prestige as the hub of Japanese crime prevention by the Doki Doki Mah-chan Game for Japanese kids.
